The Future of Acoustic Pods? AgileAcoustics Predicts Modular is Next

At AgileAcoustics, we’ve always believed that the best workplaces are the ones that adapt. As organisations continue to embrace hybrid working, rethinking their office layouts, and looking for better ways to support privacy, wellbeing, and collaboration — the demand for flexible acoustic solutions continues to grow.

That’s why we believe the next innovation in acoustic pod design is clear: modular, reconfigurable pods.

Why Modular Matters

Traditionally, acoustic pods have been built to fixed dimensions — designed for a specific purpose and footprint. While this suits many environments initially, it doesn’t reflect the dynamic nature of today’s workplaces. Teams expand, roles change, departments move — and in these moments, static pods can become a constraint rather than a solution.

Modular pods solve this problem.

By enabling customers to add, remove, or reconfigure panels and wall sections, the same pod can evolve from a two-person meeting booth to a four-person collaboration space — or even an eight-person huddle zone — as needs change. It’s true futureproofing: one pod, endless possibilities, and no need to invest in an entirely new unit each time your layout shifts. AgilePOD#12 will be our first fully modular pod, and if it’s well received, we have a range of variants in the pipeline ready to follow.

How Would It Work?

The concept is simple: create a kit of parts. Much like AgileAcoustics' existing Modulise system, a modular pod would consist of standardised wall, door, and roof modules that can be easily assembled, disassembled, and recombined.

  • Need a longer pod? Add new wall sections.

  • Need it open-ended for wheelchair users? Remove the door module.

  • Want to repurpose it as a prayer room or breakout zone? Just switch out the glazing or internal fittings.

The design possibilities are virtually endless — and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing.

Built for Change, Built for Sustainability

A modular pod isn’t just flexible — it’s sustainable. Instead of sending an entire unit to landfill or storage when it’s no longer needed, users can repurpose or reconfigure the parts. Fewer materials are wasted, and fewer new purchases are required. It aligns with AgileAcoustics’ Environmental, Social & Governance ESG Strategy.

What’s Next?

We’re already experimenting with modularity across our acoustic furniture range — from partition systems (hilo.work) to SafeSpace pods with convertible roofs. The next logical step is a fully modular pod system that puts control into the customer’s hands.

We see a future where acoustic pods are as agile as the teams who use them. Where adaptability isn’t a luxury, but a given.

If your organisation is rethinking how space is used — and looking for acoustic solutions that can evolve with your needs — we’d love to start a conversation. In the first instance, our CEO Stuart would be keen to hear more about the type of solution you’re looking for.
