AgileSAFESPACE: a unique SEN acoustic pod for Primary & Secondary Schools

Our new AgileSAFESPACE#3 Pod is an excellent choice for a sensory pod in schools and nurseries. Customers often describe our pods as feeling like a cozy cocoon, and with the addition of sensory lighting, the SafeSpace#3 would make a wonderful, calming space for children in educational and early years settings.

It was bound to happen! After the success of our AgileSAFESPACE#1, tailored for early years settings, customers started requesting larger SEN Pods for older children. Enter AgileSAFESPACE#2: a flexible solution for 2-4 people, perfect for both children and adults, offering a calm retreat to escape the busy classroom environment and focus on study or self-regulation.

AgileSAFESPACE#2 incorporates the same advanced acoustic and construction technology as our smaller SafeSpace Pods. Despite its larger size, it's still easy for a caretaker to dismantle and move it to different locations within the school.

In the bustling environment of a primary school or nursery, it is vital to create spaces where all children feel safe, understood, and supported. This is especially true for children with special educational needs (SEN). Providing a designated safe space or "den" can significantly enhance their learning experience and overall well-being.

Introducing AgileSAFESPACE, our innovative solution inspired by Anna, a dedicated Head Teacher from Liverpool. When Anna shared her story and the challenges she faced with inadequate tents, we knew we had to create something transformative. Our AgileSAFESPACE Pod is designed to revolutionise spaces in primary schools and nurseries nationwide, providing a haven for children with special educational needs. Thank you, Anna, for highlighting this crucial need and inspiring us to develop a solution that will benefit children in early years settings across the country.

Key Benefits of Safe Spaces:

  1. Emotional Regulation: Safe spaces allow children to take a break when they feel overwhelmed. This helps them learn to recognise their emotions and develop coping strategies, which are essential skills for emotional regulation.

  2. Sensory Processing: For children with sensory processing issues, a den can provide a controlled environment where they can engage with sensory tools at their own pace. This helps them manage sensory input more effectively.

  3. Behavioural Support: When children have a designated area to retreat to, it can prevent behavioural outbursts in the classroom. Knowing they have a safe space can reduce anxiety and improve behaviour.

  4. Individualised Learning: Safe spaces can also be used for individualised learning sessions. Here, children can receive one-on-one support tailored to their specific needs without the distractions of a busy classroom.

  5. Building Trust and Independence: Having access to a safe space can build trust between students and teachers. It demonstrates that their needs are recognised and respected. Over time, this can foster greater independence and confidence in SEN children.

Understanding the Unique Needs of SEN Children

Children with special educational needs often face unique challenges in a traditional classroom setting. These can range from sensory overload and communication difficulties to heightened anxiety and behavioural issues. The typical classroom environment, with its noise, movement, and complex social interactions, can be overwhelming for these children.

The Role of a Safe Space
A safe space or den serves as a retreat where SEN children can escape the overstimulation of the classroom. These areas are designed to be calming and comforting, often equipped with soft lighting, sensory tools, and comfortable seating. The purpose is to create an environment that reduces anxiety and helps children regulate their emotions.

Acoustic Pods for Classrooms and Schools

In addition to our SafeSpace Pods, we also deploy our AgilePOD range and our Modulise product to create a variety of bespoke acoustic pods tailored for school and education settings. Two recent installations showcase this versatility: a Modulise Booth installed in a classroom space, offering a flexible, open-plan acoustic solution; and an AgilePOD #10 Vista, complete with a side canopy, designed specifically for a special needs academy school to provide additional sheltered study space within a busy reception space. The AgilePOD #10 Vista brings the Class A acoustic performance and accessibility of our AgilePOD systems into education settings.

Sensory Pods for Schools

Creating safe spaces for primary and nursery school children with special educational needs is more than just a compassionate initiative; it is a practical strategy that supports their academic and emotional development. By providing a dedicated area where these children can feel secure and understood, schools can foster an inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Safe spaces are not just refuges; they are stepping stones towards a more empathetic and effective educational system.

Our CEO, Stuart, showcased several SafeSpace Pods at the Tes SEND Show North in 2025. The response from delegates was overwhelmingly positive — many were genuinely surprised by just how effective the acoustic performance was once inside a SafeSpace Pod. If you're exploring ways to reduce noise in your classroom or educational setting, feel free to reach out to Stuart directly. He’s genuinely passionate about creating calmer, more inclusive learning environments and would be happy to offer advice — even if it’s just an initial conversation.
