£860m HNPCA Funding: Why AgileAcoustics is the Perfect Partner for Creating More Inclusive Schools

The Department for Education has allocated £860 million of High Needs Provision Capital Allocations (HNPCA) for 2026/27, giving local authorities across England a major opportunity to improve provision for children and young people with SEND.
The ambition is clear: create more suitable places, strengthen inclusion within mainstream education and adapt existing school environments so that they can support a wider range of needs.

The 2026/27 HNPCA programme represents an important shift in emphasis.
The Department for Education is encouraging local authorities to use the funding to increase the capacity of mainstream schools to meet a wider range of needs, including creating and expanding inclusion bases and adapting existing learning environments.
HNPCA can be used to:
adapt classrooms to make them more accessible for children with SEND;
create specialist facilities within mainstream schools;
improve and adapt the physical environment to better meet individual needs;
increase capacity for specialist SEND provision; and
create additional high-quality places closer to where children live.
The DfE has also published its Inclusive Education Estates guidance to help schools and local authorities understand how the physical estate can contribute to a more inclusive education system.

Its unique nesting design means the footprint can change according to need:

Expanded — space for supported intervention with a teacher or teaching assistant.

It is also designed to be relocatable. As pupil needs, classroom layouts or school priorities change, the investment does not necessarily have to remain tied permanently to one location.

AgilePOD: creating quiet and specialist spaces within existing estates
For larger requirements, our AgilePOD range can create fully enclosed acoustic environments for individual pupils, small-group intervention, meetings, assessment and specialist support.
Accessibility has been central to the development of the range, with options including larger wheelchair-accessible spaces, automatic side-sliding doors and accessible controls.
This approach closely reflects the principles set out in the DfE’s Inclusive Education Estates guidance, particularly the importance of providing quiet, low-stimulus spaces close to main teaching areas, with sufficient room for an adult to sit or work alongside a pupil where required.
AgilePOD provides a practical way of achieving this within an existing school estate. Surplus or underused areas can be transformed into dedicated, supportive environments without necessarily requiring the cost, disruption and permanence of traditional building works.

Not every requirement needs a fully enclosed pod.
