Turning Waste into Worth: How Our Plywood Offcuts Get a Second Life
Date 13.08.2025 Author: Stuart Jones
At AgileAcoustics, we’re proud to be based in the stunning surroundings of Salts Mill – a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in history, creativity, and culture. But even in such a unique location, logistics matter. That’s why we’re quietly chuffed that we still manage to get a skip near our loading bay – and not just any skip.
Once a month, Egger – one of Europe’s leading wood-based materials manufacturers – drops off a dedicated recycling skip just for our plywood waste. And we make the most of it.
Why it matters
As makers of acoustic furniture and pods, we work with high-quality plywood every day. But offcuts and waste are inevitable in manufacturing. Rather than sending these materials to landfill or letting them gather dust, we’ve committed to giving our waste a second life.
Every month, we fill Egger’s skip with plywood offcuts from our workshop. Once full, they collect it and process the waste into new, usable wood-based products – like chipboard and MDF – which are then used in a variety of industries, including furniture, interiors, and construction.
It’s a simple system, but one that has a big impact.
Aligned with our ESG strategy
This partnership with Egger is just one of the ways we’re delivering on our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments. We’re serious about sustainability – not just in our finished products, but throughout our design, manufacturing, and waste processes.
Our plywood waste recycling programme helps us:
Reduce landfill waste
Cut carbon emissions from disposal
Support a circular economy
Work with like-minded, sustainable suppliers
It’s a great fit for our wider ESG strategy – which includes everything from designing products with longevity in mind to using recycled materials in our acoustic panels.
Small actions, big difference
We may be a small business operating out of a historic mill, but that doesn’t stop us from thinking big when it comes to sustainability.
Because when offcuts get a second chance, we all move a little closer to a greener, more responsible future.
