Inside Agile | Materials We Love
Date 28.10.2025 Author: Stuart Jones
At AgileAcoustics, materials matter. They’re not just what our products are made from — they define how they look, feel, and perform in real spaces. Every surface, texture and tone plays a part in shaping the environments we create: quieter, calmer, more human-centred places to work and learn.
That’s why we’re launching a new Inside Agile series called Materials We Love — a closer look at the materials that inspire our design team and underpin everything we make here in Yorkshire.
Why Materials Matter
We think good materials tell a story. They can reveal where something comes from, how it’s made, and why it exists. They influence the warmth of a space, the way light reflects off a surface, even how sound moves around a room. For us, they also connect back to our values: sustainability, local sourcing, and intelligent design.
Our goal is always to use materials that perform acoustically, age gracefully, and tread lightly on the planet — without ever feeling clinical or over-engineered. From recycled PET felt made from plastic bottles, to FSC-certified birch plywood sourced within a 75-mile radius of Salts Mill, we’re proud to build products that sound good and do good.
A Few of Our Favourites
Each month we’ll shine a light on one of the materials that helps bring our products to life — exploring its origins, benefits and why it’s found a place in the Agile workshop.
Expect features on:
Valchromat – through-coloured fibreboard that combines strength, sustainability and stunning colour depth. Perfect for our new AgileGRID Valchromat edition.
Recycled PET Felt – soft, tactile, and surprisingly high-performing when it comes to noise absorption.
Laminated Birch Ply – a design classic that brings warmth and durability to our AgilePODs, AgileTOUCHDOWN and AgileHUDDLE range.
Acoustic Wool Blend Fabrics – beautiful textiles that add a layer of natural sophistication while controlling reverberation.
Locally Made, Thoughtfully Chosen
Everything we produce at AgileAcoustics is designed, prototyped and built right here in West Yorkshire — with materials selected as much for their story as their science. “Made in Britain” isn’t just a label for us; it’s a way of supporting regional suppliers, reducing our carbon footprint, and celebrating British craftsmanship.
Coming Soon
First up in our Materials We Love series: Valchromat — a vibrant, engineered wood that’s reshaping how we think about acoustic design. Stay tuned for colour stories, design applications, and a few behind-the-scenes shots from our Salts Mill workshop.
